Who are the great modern day composers for the guitar?

Post by redmcq » Wed Sep 13, 2017 1:43 pm

I'm looking for new composers to explore. Who do you guys think are the great guitar composers of the modern day? E.g Leo Brouwer.
Also anyone know of any young up and coming composers ?
Thanks.

I'm a HUGE Leo Brouwer fan - I highly recommend checking out Graham Deviine's two Naxos Brouwer discs....awesome stuff.

Frederic Mompou, Suite Compostalena. Written for and played by Segovia and (better, I think) Antigoni Goni, among others.

Andrew York is great, but he's not so young and up and coming. He's already there. Check out his website. If you can solve the math problem on his site, you just might win a prize.

My vote goes to Marek Pasieczny. Here he is performing his "Little Sonata" for guitar, and he has many other wonderful works as well:
