My first cat loved me playing (she passed away after 14 years of happy life together), my second one was indifferent, but disappeared after a year (I hope she found a better place, not met with fox), and both cats who stay with me now, leave the room the moment I start tuning
What is interesting, only the first cat was with me since her birth, and was not fixed. Second one was abandoned, fixed in shelter, and was about 1 year old when we met; cats I share house with now, are both fixed, and were 4 and 3 yrs old when joined our family.
Not a big sample, but it makes me think that first months of any creature's life determine their preferences and phobia a lot. Not sure about influence of reproductive functions though

Not just the first month Vlad, but the first night.
We have a beautiful persian calico, she will be turning 10 this summer.
When I brought her home as a kitten, the breeder told me that persian are more susceptical to crying on the first night away from their mother than other cats.
I left her in my mother's room in her box and she started to cry in the middle of the night. Like a baby.
Mom took her and laid her unto her bed and that persian adopted her right away.
she has been sleeping with her ever since. Persians are also prone to adopt just one person and somewhat indifferent to the others.
Very intelligent cats.

My Katie cat will sleep in my teacher's Karura case, if left open during a lesson, but eschews my more pedestrian TLK. She is, in other ways the consummate elitist, except for preferring to watch T.V. to listening to my playing. Unless... nah, couldn't be my playing about which she's implicitly commenting.

My cat loves my playing and will lie on a comfortable chair and listen for hours. Ah, if only humans felt the same way!

We have a new kitten. He's about 3 months old now, and whenever I sit on the sofa to play, he gets behind me and goes to sleep.

Our cats are appreciative of the musical house in which they reside. I give lessons and the cats are always in the room watching the lessons. When my daughter plays the piano one of the cats sits on the bench next to her, so she started trying to teach it to play. One of the cats sits in the window for the other daughters violin practices.

How do you deal with students who are allergic?

P.S. I once met a person who was not allergic but who was just afraid of cats to the degree of panic like others are afraid of snakes or spiders!

Our cat likes tuna and chicken. Guitar music? Not so much.

Not sure if my new kitten likes my guitar playing or not, but he keeps jumping into my lap when I am playing. :x
Hard to play with a kitten and guitar in your lap. :D

I can't blame your cat. I would feel comfortable as well inside that nice guitar case, lol.

My cat used to sleep through my practising, then she started waking up during the session and left the room.. Now as soon as I take the guitar out of the case she is off.. even before I start.. must be my bad playing.. or.?.

she likes old time jazz on CD though and sleeps through that..

We have two cats. One (a red domestic longhair) dislikes live music of all kinds. Touch any musical instrument (guitar, mandolin, dulcimer, recorder, squeezebox) and he will vanish to the depths of a closet. He ignores recorded music, however. The other cat is a grey mackerel tabby who likes music and guitar, especially. He sits in the full meatloaf position and grins while I play my classisal guitar.
