latecomer to CG: Interesting article

Postby Paul Hammer » Thu Jun 14, 2012 1:55 pm

There was a nice article in today's Telegraph:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/musi ... estro.html

about a latecomer having a lesson with Milos.

They played Lagrima. I had not known that Tarrega composed Lagrima when he was homesick in rainy London.

Paul,
Really enjoyed your link to this nice story.
Tarraga's music is so valuable to to the classical guitar world. Easy to pick up on by beginners, but it can take a lifetime to get a great foundation for a few of his works.
Sometimes I forget about the value of every note .

Thank you for the article. I found the following observation especially interesting:

“Only play the previous note when in your head you have already moved your left hand to the next chord,” Milos instructed. “Then you’re that half-step ahead, and you will never make mistakes.”

I've been checking and I don't do that all the time. Of course, when I don't I get the impression I am more error prone.

I understand this is also what good sight readers achieve... I'm definitely not there yet in that department.

Happy playing!

Good article. I like gleaning little nuggets of wisdom from teachers. One of the suggestions reminded me of a Wayne Gretzky quote. Wayne said something about skating to where the puck would be.
