Discussions relating to the classical guitar which don't fit elsewhere.

I'm wondering.
Lute was well dead and buried at the time. Sor did apparently spend some time studying it in the 1830s and played in an "ancient music" concert organised by a musicologist, with Carcassi playing the mandolin.

Now that would have been a show to see!

That Segovia wasn't interested in salon pieces is not borne out by his recordings: there are lots of small salon pieces he recorded...

I won't derail this topic but let me just say, Segovia may have performed and recorded a lot of salon pieces but as far as commissioning works he was interested in sonatas, suites and concerti.

Both likely played arrangements of famous aria's as well as potpourris based on opera themes (Giuliani had his Rossiniana's). It's probably unlikely that they played anything other then their own works or arrangements on whatever was popular at the opera house at the time.
According to Sor's Method it would appear that he was very influenced by Motzart(Arias) and Haydn ,even analysing some pieces .I am sure that some of Aquado would also have rubbed off, and vice versa according to Julian Bream's comments on utube ,pertaining to Sor's Grand Solo Op14.As stated he would have to have fallen in line with what was popular in his time after the Revolution ,and strong nationalistic sentiments as Beethoven and other composers did.

In the famous Danish Library online we can find Coste's Op 52, which is a collection of his arrangements for guitar of music by Couperin, De Visee, Haendel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and a few other composers.
