Well, Owl talked me into it! Here's my feeble attempt at recording...

I just got so frustrated trying to get a good sound and play with no mistakes that I just decided to leave it the way it was. (I'd just come in from mowing the lawn, so my hands were all weak and tingly...)

Maybe some experts out there can advise me how I could get better quality. I'm using Audacity and an AKG "el cheapo" mike.

I was just SO happy to see that this wonderful piece was listed in the new Level 5 collection here. Thank you Mr. Delcamp!

It means "Love across the ocean (or waves)", so I thought it would be appropriate- since I've grown to love you all!

Alan

Alan... I'm amazed!
If you say this is a feeble attempt then I am desperate to hear a not so feeble attempt!

You just melt me with this piece... your playing is wonderfully sensitive... phrasing is gorgeous and I love it! :flowers:
It has gone straight into my 'keeper' file and I want MORE!
Thank you for this lovely music... and I congratulate you on posting your first piece... I hope only the first of many.

I have no clue about the recording side of it although I noticed some reverb... no doubt the 'experts' will have advice for you.

Joy in the music

Owl
PS. Could you edit the subject line please Alan so it is not all caps... it won't work with our cataloging system otherwise?
Never, ever give up!... I leave my songprint on your heart.

Hi tarbaby

that was a nice piece. I don't have access to level5, but to hear that melody was very relaxing. Is it brazilian or portuguese? I am not fluent in portuguese but I think the title means "loving over the sea". Regardless, it's a beautifull piece and interpretation. Keep them coming!!

WOW, that was fast, dear Owl! You must have been sitting up in your tree waiting to swoop down on the next rodent that moved!

I'm sincerely overwhelmed by your lovely comments... I had no idea it would be even listenable. Thank you SO much!

Yes, I don't know yet how to regulate the reverb thingy. Or how to post here properly, so thank you for telling me about the caps!

:merci: :serenade:

Hello Alan,

That is a very impressive debut!

What a delightful performance! You handled this really well and I would like to thank you for sharing it with us.

The recording sounded pretty good to me,

Best wishes, V :merci:

Thank you all SO much for your kind words and taking the time to listen! It's like everyday is Christmas!

Luis, Abreu is indeed a Brazillian composer who also wrote the most famous Choro in the world, "Tico-Tico". He's written many other beautful pieces. "Tardes em Lindoia" is also in the Level 5 collection. Keep posting and you'll get there before you know it!

I was excited to find him, because my guitar was made by Sergio Abreu and I think that's pretty cool! Also, I've always loved Fritz Kreisler and Abreu's pieces are like Kreisler for the guitar, in my opinion.

You are correct, by the way. It does mean "Loving Over the Sea", but my Brazillian friend told me, with a glint in his eye, that it really means "waves"- which could be taken to mean waves of emotion. It seems that Brazillians love to attach "double meanings" to their words.

Thanks to all, again! I send you waves of love!

Hey Tarbaby congrats on your first mp3 posting. When I've just finished mowing the lawn I also have that nice relaxed tingling feeling you mention, and I think you can feel this in the nice relaxed unhurried way you play this pleasant sounding piece.

There's something funny happening with the bass - a kind of warbling. You mention you are using an AKG. They're usually good mics - what model is it and how are you recording?

Anyway, well done, look forward to hearing more from you.

Thanks for the listen, Cam! And thank you for your kind comments!

You're right about the "warbling". I can't get rid of it. It's there even before I add any effects. I put up a posting on "Home Studio" here. Maybe someone can figure it out?

Your recordings sound absolutely perfect to MY ears, by the way!

I don't think this is a feeble attempt at recording at all! Your playing captures very well the wistful melodic line- a special kind of Brazilian feeling.
Lovely

Thank you very much 8)

I love it. Romantic, yearning, but (as Prometheus points out) with that indefinable breezy quality.

I can't find fault with the performance or the recording. You and Cam must have really good ears!

Loving On The Sea

Postby Welkya » Tue Jun 12, 2007 4:08 am

Loving On The Sea... I just came from a place were the waves kiss the sore fingers and run away . A simple sign, half covered in sand, reminds us to turn our bright lights off at night, because the little sea turtles keep running away from the safety of the oceans deep, dark waters. Not always the direction towards the light is the safest. Farewell to the baby sea turtles is this beautifully played song.
Just a note to say:
