Llobet, Miguel; Canço del Lladre - D08

Postby Brian Brock » Fri Feb 18, 2011 3:31 am

Here's a version of Llobet's Canco del Lladre.

I have really been liking this piece since I heard it last summer in the movie The Passenger (which version, by the way, is perfectly played and recorded, though uncredited). I began learning it in the fall and I can finally get through it without my memory gapping. These pieces which have elements which repeat, but then veer away from each other are hard for me to memorize. In this case, the alteration really makes the piece, when in the repeat of the A section it stays on the high E, and then the B section repeat resolves rather than turning around.

I think I'm playing a bit too hard, forcing the notes a bit, though not as badly as in the Bach piece I also uploaded. I think there's one edit toward the end. Someday I would like to make a really fine recording of this...

thanks

Hey Brian! :bravo: Well done for sure! Maybe pushing the melody a bit, as you suggested - but I think you're rrrriiiigght there with it!

As if I have any room to talk, so take this will a whole spoonful of salt ... but maybe back off the melody just a hair - use color rather than volume to bring it out - and sweeten it up a bit and I think you'll be really really happy! One other quick thought - there are a couple of spots where a slur might be more pleasing than striking the note - it might provide a little more legato feel.

Still, it IS named "The Thief's Song" - or something like that - so who's to say that your playing the melody "hard" (I think you said) isn't more in line with the intended feel of the piece??

Anyway - I really enjoyed listening for sure! Thanks for jumping in with this one!
"Most men will not swim until they are able to." ... :reflechir:
... and this applies to CG, how??

Nice playing Brian. You've got the notes - as you said, you need to play it a bit more gently.
Let that beautiful melody line sing! :casque:
