I will be making one for each of my other guitars soon after I receive the rosewood. I will post a photo of the armrest when I have the time.

HH, do you have sample recording that you can share? Is there a section here where you can upload this? THanks.
I have the sound clip but have no idea how to post.

All Yamaha GC series are build in Japan. However have said that, I think probably most of the parts are made in China or elsewhere and assembled and finished in Japan.

This is how my self-made armrest looks like. The finish is raw. I use double sided tape to stick it onto the guitar.

I am puzzled why the Yairi is too precious to be played? I thought we bought a guitar for playing in order to realize it's value? Just like we buy a car in order to take us around?

This is a 1974 S.Yairi 950 that I never knew existed as I was looking out for a S.Yairi 900. Because of its age and such a beautiful sounding guitar, I think I might not be able to find another one. This guitar is more than a childhood dream come true. I do play it about once a week. I guess some guitars are meant to be kept more than to be played.

Naveen and Simon,

I think Kevin is playing his Mikhail Robert Grand Concert( Cedar/Indian Rosewood) in that video. Probably from when he had just upgraded to his first 650 mm scale guitar. He now has an Andrea Tacchi!

First it was a smaller model and later a full size model. Brunswicker & Apelt have a workshop near the centre of Frankfurt.

Thanks Simon for the info... just saw some more of it from his channel.. Sound pretty amazing.. Will research more.

Wow, after all the mod you've done for your GC41, you probably can rename it as GC41+ or, TYPE-R. So any plan to down Turbo? haha! Chng your guitar!

What do you think of my new armrest? I have decided to call my Yamaha GC41 the Yamaha GC41 Deluxe. What do you think of the new name?

With the armrest in place, the GC41 Deluxe is so much more comfortable to play and so much more enjoyable. I cannot wait for the arrival of another 2 more sets of rosewood to make another 2 more armrests. The new armrest should take care of the wear on the edge of my S.Yairi 950.

It's truly an amazing job for the armrest you have done.

However, personally I don't prefer this add-on. I had tried a few guitars that even designed and built with an armrest. Yes, it provides some comfort underneath but I feel it needs some time to get use to it, and in my very own opinion - the sight is....awful, unmatched. It's like adding feets to the picture of a snake. (Chinese idioms)

For engineering stuff, I love to mod. Even import a 1.3L engine from Japan and down into my 1L Nissan March during those crazy days. But I never like to mod or install add-on to handcrafted stuff like classical Guitar, which I respect them as a form of art piece by its origin. Perhaps, that's the reason why, classical Guitar didn't change much after these years, unlike the electric one. Kind of stubborn with this personal belief. Just a very personal preference.

Nevertheless, of course you can do what you like to your guitar, as long as you're happy with it, and I'm looking forward to your 10 strings conversion program.

Cheers!

Let me try and look for matching rosewood for the armrest. Let's see how it look with the S. Yairi 950 and Esteve Adalid. Hope the rosewood I ordered can match the guitar.

What do you think if I use ebony for the GC41 Deluxe?

Dave1947 wrote:I've been playing a GC41c for a year now and with the quality of it's construction and the excellent sound it's easy to recommend it at the price they're asking! If it's your only guitar I'd recommend the spruce top as the sound is brighter. My cedar top has a very mellow rich sound and after lowering the saddle about 1.5mm and changing to a normal tension Addario Pro-Arte composite G string, fits my needs and sound requirements...really nice guitars, whichever you choose.

I have to raise the bridge for my GC41 as the 3rd string buzz easily. The 6th string is now about 4mm at the 12th fret after the "upgrade" to Camel's bone. I still find it a little low. Maybe I should raise it to 4.5 mm.

That's a nice arm-rest. Total respect, HNLim. You have good woodworking skills.

P.S. You may wish to reconsider using double-sided adhesive tape on a French-polished guitar in the future. I hear that it takes the FP finish off.

Thanks for the compliment. There is nothing I can do now that it is mounted with double sided tape.
