D02 #7 March 2017 X players, 4 notes, 2 days x (X), 1 voice

Post by Salvatore Lovinello » Fri Mar 03, 2017 6:20 pm

Let the games begin...

From the Delcamp games page:
D02 X players, 4 notes, 3 days, 1 voice
"D02" means that the game is second year level.
"X players" means that the work is to be constructed by X players.*
"4 notes" means that each player invents a sequence of 4 notes.
The work is under construction for 2 days for each player(X). Example, 2 player=4 days 6 participants=12 days*
"1 voice" means that the collective work is monophonic.
The rhythm is free and modifiable.
The first player records a sequence of 4 notes, the second player repeats what his predecessor played and completes his phrase by adding another sequence of 4 notes to it. In his turn, the first player repeats what the previous player played and adds another 4 notes. At the end of 3 days, one of the players finishes off the collective work with a concluding phrase and indicates in his post that the work is completed. If a contribution does not fit the specifications, the other player can ignore it or adopt it, but it is advisable to reject contributions that are above the level proposed and which would put the other player in difficulty.

Feel free to change the time signature. If you do we'll use my first four notes as the pickup measure.

*These lines have been changed from the original. X=variable number of players.
Sal

A quick question - Sal, please let me know how it is that one next player adds to the first measure as written? Specifically, how does the next contribution get written once it has been played and decided upon... do you use special software for this? Thanks, Jonathan
:)

Hi Jonathan,

I went to http://www.blanksheetmusic.net/ and printed a sheet of music paper. I manually wrote in the notes, scanned the page and uploaded it to here. If you don't have a scanner you might just photograph your contribution or you can tell me what the notes are and I'll do the rest(but only if you really have no other option).

Here's my addition. I'm sorry. I tried to play the slur in the first measure, but just couldn't get it. Consequently, I forgot to write the slurs in.

Woo Hoo! This is starting to sound nice.

Jenni, the slur in the first measure is simply a hammer down with your m finger. The slur in the Jonathan's second measure uses your pinky on the fourth fret third (D) string and slides down to the 6th fret(III position) third (D) string. While you pluck the open B move your left hand up to the I(first position) in time to play the A

I would like to get involved in this game but for some reason I can't play your MP3 recording.

Hi David,

Sorry you're having problems. Make sure you're checking the simple things first. Volume up? Mute off? Speakers plugged in? Can you play a CD or hear sounds from other sources?

You can still participate even if you can't hear the Mp3. It's a simple line of music. I'm confident you can play it well enough to get involved without having to hear it. I look forward to your contribution.

Im not trying to make excuses. Just the truth. Ive struggled with the techncal computor part of this assingment. IVE GOT to learn more about scanning and sharing different files which I find tedious and boring. Ive done my best to get this assignment out. Hopefully it will improve in the future.

Nice David. Don't forget the slurs at the beginning of the first and second measures.

Dear classmates,

I think that it is time to wrap up this musical game. My sense, with what we've achieved thus far, is that there are three measures remaining in order to close. With 4 players, we have several possibilities such as :
A. Player 1 (S.L.) Player 2 (J.L.) Player 3 (J.G.) with Jenni to finish; or, alternatively
B. Player 4 (D.F.) Player 3 (J.G.) Player 2 (J.L.) with Jonathan to finish; or,
C. Each player now finishes and we record and listen to three (3) different versions; or,
D. We collaborate on a final 3 measures and then finish the little piece all together, after a further week of discussion.
E. We assign the last three bars randomly using the '=rand' function on a spreadsheet, say, S.L. 0-0.249, J.L 0.25 - 0.499, J.G 0.5 - 0.749, D.F. 0.75-0.999

The 'musical game' is proven interesting, and I make this post simply because "we're worth it" (finish, I mean)!
This is, assuming the remaining esteemed classmates are not going to suddenly pipe up!
:merci:
