Hello Yuki,

Are you willing to travel outside of Metro Manila? Have a look at this thread on luthier Tabo Derecho.

Luthiers in the Philippines

Postby zavaletas » Sun Jun 10, 2007 3:28 pm

I may be going to the Philippines this fall, so I would be interested in who is building classical guitars there, and who are the better luthiers.

Hello! I agree with Trystramys. Maestro Armando Derecho a.k.a. "Tabo Derecho" is one of the most reputable luthiers here in Metro Manila. His guitars are just marvelous! He's also a wonderful Classical Guitarist and pedagogue. Also, try contacting "olenaval" who is one of our dear members here... Maestro Derecho is his teacher and friend.

It's Tabo Derecho, for sure! No, I don't receive commissions. As a matter of fact, I paid (still paying) a handsome price for my brazilian guitar. Excellent, yuki and zavaletas. I own one.

James,

Armando Derecho made that guitar I showed you awhile back.

There's also a Filipino luthier in San Francisco, US. His name is Alan Fontanilla. You can check him out as well, and ask for references, on other luthiers here.

Off topic but there is also a super violin maker and restorer in Manila. I just know him as Amador, in case you are interested.

Hello, aside from Tabo Derecho, who else is a good guitar repairman in the Philippines ( Manila)? Thank you very much.

For what I have heard, there's one that build a good quality guitar. Classical, flamenco, etc. The luthier is from Cebu though. :)
My Guitar, my only companion
In sorrow, in happiness, in trouble
Through my hands, fingers
From my heart
My guitar speaks for me
In every note, emotion comes
In every smile nor tears
I'm glad i have my guitar

Thanks for the help, I was able to check, here are some good guitar repair craftsmen in the Philippines- Arie Hipolito (Guitar Hospital.com) and Mr. Mike Sison. I will consult them soon and post an update about their craft.
