Info Wanted : Ryoji Matsuoka M-12 (appox '83)

Postby Richard Hayes » Wed Nov 23, 2011 5:09 am

I've had this very nice classical for about 20 years now, and still enjoy it very much. In researching Matsuoka guitars thru the net, I've found no mention of the M12 model - is it an early production run, or possibly an entry level instrument? The serial number, stamped on the neck base within the guitar, starts with 83, which leads me to believe produced in that year. Mine appears to have a matte-finished solid cedar top (color, dents easily), sounds sweeter and less loud the spruce-top Sigma CR-9, and has better action. If anyone has any further information, it'd be much appreciated. :discussion:

I can't help you I'm afraid but until someone who can comes along, here are a few places where someone might be able to, in case you haven't been there already.

The last one is in Japanese but can be got the gist of by using google translate.

Good luck.
Getting better bit by bit, day by day.

Hi, i'm a fan of of Matsuoka guitars - i've never seen an M12 first hand though

In this aria guitar the classical guitars are atributed to R.Matsuoka on the back page
http://www.oldguitar.jp/catalog/ARIA/ARIA_73_0012.jpg

and there's an M12 on this page of the catalogue
http://www.oldguitar.jp/catalog/ARIA/ARIA_73_0008.jpg

I can't read the Japanese details i'm afraid, but in 1973 it would have cost 12,000 yen

I believe you are right about the 83 on the neck block making it 1983

Hope that's of some help! Wish I could have a go playing it!

Hello kaitunes

Welcome to the Delcamp classical guitar forum.

I hope you will introduce yourself in the Introduce Yourself section and then we can let you know how to get the most out of the forum.

You can also have a look at this page. It has a general introduction to the Delcamp forum.

Best wishes

Thank you - the links are much appreciated! Looks like the M12 is indeed the entry-level in the line...with it as nice as it is, I'd sure like to play some of the 'better' ones...

Hope that's of some help! Wish I could have a go playing it!

Anytime you're in Newfoundland, feel free to drop by...lol...:bye:
