Construction and repair of Classical Guitar and related instruments

I am planning a visit to Mexico City in a couple months and wondering if anyone can give me a list of reputable luthiers or classical guitar shops in the city?
I have read a lot in other threads about Paracho but I won't be able to leave Mexico City. Can anyone recommend a few places worth visiting?
Thanks!

This is probably not much help but I remember back in the 1960s my father would go to Mexico City at least once or twice a year to do accounting work for the large copper and brass company (named after a big snake) that he worked for.
Being a guitar afficionado he brought back many a Mexican guitar, the finest of which (Brazilian rosewood and spruce) cost about $125.00 at the time. More typical was $40.00-$60.00 for a really decent guitar (though they were a bit gaudy sometimes).
His tactic was to find a cabbie and ask where he could buy guitars and off they'd go............sounds like a way to get your throat cut these days but those were more innocent times I guess.....
Best of luck with your search!

If you run into one of those decent $50 Mexican Vihuela's while you're down there, let me know.
I need one, but can't bring myself to pay $250 for one here when I know they're like $49 down there

Hey Canuc.
I live in Mexico city. I cannot give you any information on any Guitar stores but I can tell you that Polanco is a neighborhood in Mexico City. It is one of the nicest neighborhoods in the city, so go with those threads that mention Polanco. To get to that neighborhood just tell a cab driver to take you to Metro Polanco and you can walk to everything from there. Metro polanco is about a $3 to $5 USD, 10 min cab ride from the Angel of Independence.

Thanks for the responses, but I am surprised that no one knows of an actual luthier working in Mexico City? It would be pretty strange that a city of that size, in a country where the guitar is so prominant, would not have something?

I have no direct knowledge of this, but Juan Pimentel RamĂrez seems to be well respected.

Too many guitars, not enough time.

I too have no personal knowledge but I googled luthier Mexico DF and what I found first ( on another guitar forum) was a recommendation for someone called Gabriel at earluthier. You may want to try the Delcamp Spanish forum as well as google.
The basic thing about playing the guitar is the pleasure you get from it. There's nothing wrong with pleasure is there?
