Actually I play a bit of rock. I've been working on my own material recently. Should by ready by the end of march. I don't know if it fits this forum though ... ;)

Cool stuff!

I also like to see you playing and singing, as a pop singer would nowadays do. Was it also the case back at that time (or were the guitar player and the singer two different persons)?

What kind of strap is that you're using? Looks like it fits well and doesn't appear to require any alterations to the guitar.

Thanks Carlos. There are a lot of clues which indicate that that was the fashion in those days. John Dowland and many other accomplished ayre composers did play and sing their songs at the same time. In fact it is simply obvious that they HAD to do that when composing. There are records which tell that theatre actors would often perform popular songs of the day while accompanying themselves with a lute. Also "In 1514 Castiglione praised the musicians who accompanied themselves on the lute..."
In Renaissance the medieval troubadour tradition was still much alive. Lute was also a very popular instrument and was very often used as the most obvious accompaniment for popular songs just like today guitar is. It is therefore hard to imagine that lute-singing wasn’t popular then. Apart from that there are lot of renaissance painting depicting lutenists singing. If You take into consideration the aura of the days and the idea of "The Man of the Renaissance" it gets increasingly clear that singing and playing songs simultaneously in Renaissance would go together like bread and butter ;)

I guess today we have a great deal of proffesionalisation which intimidates lute - singing...

I use this kind of 'gypsy strap". It does not reqiure any alterations. You simply wear a kind of a tie which has a hook at the bottom end which you hook over the edge of the sound hole. It is less convenient then reguar strap and does not keep the guitar fully stable. Actually I'm switching to a regualar one. I play qiute a lot and the one i use provokes too much muscle contraction...

Mateusz
¡Hermosa interpretación! por un momento creí estar en el renacimiento (la guitarra y el micrófono me han hecho dudar)
Gracias por compartirlo.
Un abrazo, cad.

Beautiful performance! for a moment I thought I was in the Renaissance (guitar and microphone have made me doubt)
Thanks for sharing.
A hug, cad.
