Ok - pass 2 done so I'll post it onthe forums - maybe I'll get more and better critique if I post it here instead of asking folks to visit the junk page for it.

This is just a couple of days after the baselline and I'm trying some different fingerings that tomc suggested - so still very lame. But, anyway - any comments and suggestions will be greatly appreciated - and be mean!! not just "nice" etc.

I think the vid is easier to critique so I'll also post the vid of this pass in the vids forum.

I used the Hernandez on this pass and I don't really care for its tone high up - and the new noise reduction doesn't seem to work as well on the hernandez recordings as it does on the cedar - so I'll probably go back to the cedar in the future for this one.

I also played this pass a bit faster than I will probably do in the future.

Oh well - not REALLY ready for public consumption but I really would like some critique -- for example...

1. I really have trouble getting good separation when playing several bass notes - I GUESS this is just poor RH technique but maybe someone has some little hint that will help me get it better under control.

2. it STILL does not capture the feel of "Religioso" - I know - I know - and I must just be thick - but what do you think I can do to accomplish that change??

etc. etc. etc. -- ok - well - anyway... for what it is worth...

OK hav... you got me.
Honestly... I prefer the 'feel' of the first one... better tone and tempo (for me)... and yes, I know it still needed work.
I watched the vid, and for some reason your RH looks 'tight'... I'm not sure why  just a feeling I get watching you.
Is the first one still up for viewing... I would like to watch it again.

I think that the piece doesn't feel 'weighty' enough... I hope that doesn't sound silly to you.
If you can achieve a fuller, fatter tone, and drop tempo you will no doubt achieve this.

But you know what hav... I still love your playing :flowers:

hey Owl - yes - I agree with all you said. I was playing it too fast this time (cutting 15 seconds or so from a 2 minute piece is a pretty fair speed up I guess :grire:) and I AM using some different fingerings - and the spruce ALWAYS sounds less full than the cedar (at least, when I'm the one playing) - the noise reduction doesn;t help either, I'm afraid.

My RH MAY well have been a bit tighter as well -- probably the speed again - and maybe that new fingering for the opening just sets me off too tight or something - I like the effect of the high up opening - but I prefer the feel of the original fingering I used -- I probably just need more than 2 days to get use to the nes fingerings.

Yes - the baseline is at http://www.hav.com/junk/videos_03-19-06/
this second pass is at http://www.hav.com/junk/videos_03-21-06/

A few things
One, more rubato. This piece is all about rubato.
Second, treat most of the dotted 8th notes like they are double dotted. This piece in a way is very march like.
I actually prefer playing this piece over the first movement. Much more dramatic while the first movement is more mellow.

..in the german forum, david ropertz played the 3 parts of this partiture. (he's really young, 15 or so..) It's very interesting for my, to hear different interpretations of the same pieces. I have no critic, i enjoy it!

Hey Mika - yes - I liked it - his is even a hair faster than mine (though played more cleanly for sure.

FYI - jaimie has recorded all 3 parts here as well -- and I THINK BFG is going to add a pert 3 soon so he will have all 3 parts here as well --- I will probably never even attempt part 3 myself
:grire:

Thanks y'all -- and, cyberninja, please do not hold your breath because I think it will be a while (if ever) before I even attempt pare 3 - a wise man knows his limits and, though many might (correctly) argue that I often try to exceed mine, I know part 3 is well beyond these old hands for now :grire:

Hi hav,

Well done !
Actually, everything has been already said- no suggestions/critics this time from me. :?

But seriously- In my opinion this piece needs time and I do not mean just a technic. To play it "religioso" is a huge challenge.

What about the 3rd movement :) ?

Cheers,
mark
