Checking in from northern Jersey

Hi All;
I am awfully glad to have discovered this forum and hope to pickup some tips on starting out on the classical guitar.

I am the typical male in his forties married and blessed with a wonderful 6 year old Son. As is also typical, I work long hours and have other outside commitments (soccer coaching). However, I also have a long standing desire to play classical music on the spanish guitar. Although admittedly very lofty of me, I offer as an example of the type of music I simply love to hear on the CG a piece called "Jesus Joy of Mans' desire" :roll:

Aside from learning a few chords on my friends guitars as a youth, I have virtually no experience. I am hoping the love of the music and the desire to learn will carry me though. More specifically I am looking for advise on a decent beginners CG in the 200-300 dollar range. Also, I am finding it difficult to select an appropriate instructional DVD to start out with... Seems everyone has their own "special" technique on how best to get up to speed quickly. Like most things worth doing, I am assuming there is no good way learn this beautiful art form quickly. I do expect to dedicate about 30- 45 mins on most weekday evenings to practice. However, I am hoping to avoid the obligatory 2-3 years of scales before playing anything that sounds nice.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any advise you can offer.

Regards

Welcome to the forum, there is a section called, advice on buying a guitar, under Luthers, Classical Guitar Makers, where you can ask your question on purchasing guitars. For the 200 to 300 dollar range Cordoba Guitars makes a 200 dollar C3M model, and for about 300 dollars a C-5 can be purchaced, both good, but for the extra money the C-5 would, I think be a better purchace. "Jesus Joy of Mans' desire", is also one of my favorites, but I have discovered other pieces, mostly spanish composers, (Granados, Albeniz) that are excellent. Have a good time on this forum, lots of resources and sheet music as George has said. Also, alot of instuctional material and advice on the forum too.
