Satie, Erik; Gymnopédie no.1 - D07 Video

Postby ValĂ©ry Sauvage » Sat Dec 01, 2007 7:31 pm

This one is for piano, transcription for guitar. Slow tempo, but not easy to play... I like the atmosphere. Hope you will like it too (but could be better... some update to come.)
Valéry ;-)

Hello Valéry,

Thank you very much for this lovely piece. As always, you play beautifully and I have greatly enjoyed your interpretation. I think many members will find your recording both enjoyable and instructive,

Best wishes, V :) :merci:

Beautifully done and quite meditative in feeling, which suits this piece - IMO. Thank you
What type of guitar were you playing - is it of the 19th century ?

Dear Val:

As Owl put it, a lovely and generous offering. Plus, I can't believe that you got the sonorities I've heard from your early romantic period guitar. And those wonderful basses.

I'd also like to complement you on the beauty of your home. Everything is so welcoming--the furniture, the paintings (your own, I imagine), the aesthetic manner in which all the everyday articles of your life are arranged. It's all of one piece with your music. That's what I call an integrated personality!

Gratefully,

Geo, I'm afraid you'll be desapointed if you come home one day... (you'll be welcome)

Yes it is an Austrian guitar from around 1900, but not quite well fixed and hard to play, frets needs a change...

Thanks all (and Owl) for kind comments ;-)

Valery,

Nicely done. I love that guitar, I think I've seen it on at least one other of your posts, that one in your kitchen I think, right? At any rate, thank you very much for sharing, most enjoyed. :D

This an old favorite of mine too... and I like it even better played with such a delicate minimalist aesthetic. The quicker decay of the strings, and your always beautiful plucking technique give it a delicate, honest sound that is so much warmer.

(I also love your "attic"... I like the finished product, but I'm sure that I would have been very tempted to leave it all exposed and suffer the dust and cold, just to see the beautiful old construction details  It's an old internal conflict from my past life as an architect who now understands about trying to paint and play with frozen fingers)

That's why I try to keep as much wood visible (see older vids taken from the other side...)

Lovely, thank you.
Just the sort of music I need to listen to (if not play!) late in the evening.
