Any good advice for learning sight reading?

A "classroom" environment for exchanging Technical Questions & Answers, How-To's, music theory concepts, etc.

I have just ordered the "Joining The Dots" (Sight-Reading) Grade 1-5 from ABRSM. Not sure if they are good. Should be arriving in a month's time.

Adios.....Chris

When I was at your level (a few years ago) I found one or two internet music theory sites helpful.

Particularly: Teoria.com

See: 'The Time Signature' section under the Rhythm section - very helpful.

Speaking of time signatures, it's a good idea to read through sheet music away from the guitar. Particularly counting time can be worked on this way.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.

I agree, that's what I'm doing now at work!

I am new to sight reading myself. I am 59 and enjoying the process. I separate "reading" music from learning the fretboard. I just ordered "Sight Reading for the Classical Guitar, Level I-III". I will let you know how it goes. I also purchased a software app called Sight Reading Challenge which has greatly helped me to identify the notes. I use the app often when I am on the computer. It not only identifies how many you get right in one session, but scores how fast you identified them.

I am 69 years old and started playing the CG a year and a half ago. At first sight reading was a challenge, still it, but
I can do it and am getting better at it every day.
Age cannot stop you

I mentioned this on another thread, so I hope I'm not violating the rules by duplication.

I've just begun reading, and found simple scores too difficult because my reading is weak on the G-clef. This site generates notes only on the G-clef, and I'm becoming more comfortable with the G-clef thanks to this site.
