Changing strings is easier and never any string broke. The sound improved slightly, too (though the guitar was so good before that this wasn't the motive to use the beads at all).
There seems to be an interesting alternative to the bone beads from Japan, but I can't figure out how to get these:

Actually not. As I said, if you tie on with a double or triple loop it's basically impossible for a string to slip. Ramon
