The Bird's eye maple guitar on page 2 of this thread is now available for sale. This guitar was built for the GFA convention in October last year. I've now finally got round to touching up a few small marks it picked up at the exhibition - so it's now ready to go! Send me a PM if you want any further details. If I have time, I'll try to post a recording of it on the forum.

James Lister Classical Guitars - Dundee Guitar Festival

Postby James Lister » Fri Jun 27, 2008 1:25 pm

I will be exhibiting my guitars at the Dundee Guitar Festival again this year from the 11th - 13th July. I hope to have 2, or possibly 3 guitars to exhibit. More details of the Festival can be found here:

http://www.dundeeguitarfestival.com/

If anyone else from the forum is planning to go - do let me know - it would be good to meet up.

Hi Folks,

A while ago I posted some pictures of some really nice flamed walnut I was hoping to use, and there's been some discussion recently of Walnut guitars - so I thought I'd share some pictures of my latest creation.

This guitar was a commission, so sorry, not for sale. If I get time before the guitar is collected, I'll try to post a recording of it.

Thanks everyone :D - will try to do a recording next week. Not sure what to record though, not much of what I'm playing at the moment is in the public domain.

As promised, I've now posted a recording of the Walnut guitar here. Not the best recording quality I'm afraid, and I haven't been playing this Satie piece long enough to really do it justice, but hopefully it gives you some idea. Basically I'm very pleased with the guitar. I was expecting it to have a "creamy" tone similar to my maple guitars, but in the end it sounded closer to my Indian rosewood instruments. Can't really judge too much from just one walnut guitar, but I'm certainly looking forward to using this tonewood again.

Hi Folks,

Here's a few photos of a recent non-commission guitar. It has Brazilian rosewood back (3-piece) and sides, a spruce top, burr wood and satinwood inlay rosette, V-joint, 12-hole tie-block bridge, and Gotoh tuners. Scale length is 650mm, the neck is 50mm wide at the nut, and the fingerboard is slightly radiused. Finish is French polish.

I'll try to post a sound sample soon.

This guitar is available for sale, although I'm planning to place it with a UK studio next month. PM me for any further details.
There are some more pictures on my website: James Lister Guitars

UPDATE: I've now sold this guitar to Forsyth Brothers in Manchester, UK. Their website is here if you want to contact them to have a look.

James: Your claim that your modified strutting system produces "slightly" brighter trebles made me proud of our understated English salesmanship and innate modesty. I always wanted to to just put "quite good" on my publicity [and also highlight "quite".]
Your hope that you will be able to increase your stock of aged spruce will be met faster than you'd like in my experience.

Hope we can meet up sometime but Sheffield's a bugger to drive through!
