[You Tube] Per Olov Kindgren

Postby dmcharg » Sun May 03, 2009 8:38 pm

Hi,

I am a new member but long time amateur classical guitarist. I recently discovered PER-OLOV KINDGREN (AndanteLargo) on you tube. He has some wonderful compositions at all levels. I recently purchased much of his music and would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for some new pieces that are very melodic.

Cheers
David.

G'day David,

There are quite a few of us here that like Per Olov's work. I like his interpretation of Air on the G-String the most out of all his work. He has such a soft sensitive way of playing it.

The guitar he plays is Philippe Jean-Mairet, 1987.

I never thought Air on the G string could work on the guitar until I heard Per Olov play it. Soft and sensitive is Kindgrens strength. Listen to his rendition of Piazzola's Milonga del Angel. Gives me goosebumps everytime I play it.

He is a wonderful composer and player. I have purchased much of his music and i am working my way thru many of his pieces. Having looked thru the musical score of many of his pieces most of them are not too complex and on first glance i was able to sight read and play many of them but i am working very much on the soft tones and dynamics that really make these wonderful pieces of music to play and listen to. Its great to discover new pieces. Does anyone have any other recommendations of other composers or pieces similar to per olov ?

Thanks
David.

Dmcharg,
You might also look at Jamal Zohourian's site. He has some nice compositions that you can download for free. He has mp3s of each piece that you can listen to.
I use his "Sunrise" as a warm-up piece.

Just a little followup since i originally posted this first message, i have purchased many of per olov's scores and i have had constant complements from people about my playing and how they love the melodies. Just a few of my favorites are
A touch of love, Sea of Nectar, If you were here etc etc. So if your currently going thru one of those periods where your working on some new difficult pieces and you want some music to remind you why you play the guitar i would consider a few of per olovs creations you will not regret it.

Yes, I do like his playing and his interpretations. He brings out the romantic voice of the guitar brilliantly.
Besides the classical guitar repertoire, I like his Beatle tunes. Listen to "Michelle".

Yip very nice. He just released a new piece called "All the things you are" and again its a wonderful little melody. He really is very very talented at coming with these short little pieces with just wonderful little melodies.
