Muting notes

Postby magnus1225 » Fri Mar 24, 2006 5:46 am

When listening to some songs, after playing a bass note, it cuts out fast. Like for the song Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring by Bach. To mute the note do you use your left hand to play the note then lift the finger off the string but still have a it touch, or do you use your thumb after you pluck the strings? This has always caused me troubles:| Thanks

either is acceptable. More often the thumb is used--it gives your LH time to get to the next note. But if you have time, and the finger coordination, there's no problem with just lifting the finger up. It really depends on the piece.
