Players Nails Availability

Postby fretdancer » Sat May 12, 2012 12:42 am

I recently read a post in this forum about someone using Players Nails. However, I thought those were no longer in production. Does anyone know for certain whether or not they are still being made, and if they ARE still being made, where I can get a set? Thanks!

I did a pretty comprehensive online search but couldn't find them.

Don't know how these would compare but look on Strings By Mail for

Emergency Nail Kit from RICONAILS
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.

There is no such thing as Players Nails. For quite some time Players Nails has been incorrectly used to refer to Guitar Players Nails. At GuitarPlayersNails.com they list both e-mail and phone contacts, so finding out is simple. Guitar Player Nails and Rico Nails are completely different. Guitar Player Nails uses an industrial strength superglue, claimed to be stronger and more durable that the ones you can find in the stores, to hold a fake fingernail in place. You glue on a rectangular shape and file it to fit.

Players Nails shut down about 10 years ago. It was a wonderful product produced by the Baltic Music Co.. These were a pack of about 30 pre shaped glue on nails that were designed to glue to the underside of one's fingernails. I have been using ping pong ball material since they went under.
I have had nothing but problems every time I try to glue anything to the outside of my nail and I can't stand the feel and the looks of artificial nails so I re-enforce the underside of my nails.

It's now clear that my previous post was incorrect and that there really was a Players Nails distinct from Guitar Player Nails. The 10 year period sounds right. A few years ago I had spent some effort in finding Players Nails without success. Strings by Mail currently sells Guitar Player Nails (and Rico Nails). One kit costs $19.99. Guitar Players Nails are glued on the top. However, they could still be be glued from underneath. In the underneath method, the artificial nail fragment and the real nail can be covered on top with an innocuous (nearly invisible) silk wrap to further the durability of the fix.

I just ordered a set of the Guitar Player Nails and I was wondering do I need to completely remove my natural nails before putting the artificial nails on?

Why not? You can always glue them back on!

P.S. Sorry. I suddenly realized you were asking if the nails needed to be trimmed back. We need a GPN expert.

Remove? Not sure what you mean, but no, you don't have to remove any of your natural nail. GPN's artificials go on over your natural nail.
BTW, I've been using high grade double-sided tape to attach the artificials and sealing the seams with Hard-as-Nails; not quite as permanent as super glue, but surprisingly durable. I've left them on up to 2 weeks without problem.
The beauty of the double-sided tape is that you can (carefully) peel the artificial off with no damage to your nail plate...
