David Tanenbaum- Royal Winter Music- Audiofon CD?

Post by Carey » Thu May 17, 2018 7:49 pm

I'm trying to track down a copy of this circa 1985 disc, and am seeking new ideas for places to look, having exhausted the usual ones.
I know about the later Stradivarius disc, but still hope to find this old one, on which he plays a strong-sounding John Gilbert.

TIA.

Wait - you live in sunny CA. Why don't you call David directly and ask him? He runs the guitar program at the SF Conservatory of music, of course. This makes him awfully easy to locate.

Or set up an appointment and drive to his office! Oh wait, with such popularity, I'm sure his security goons with prevent access from a crazed fan. :D

Good luck !

Thanks for your reply. I had previously done that and he graciously provided the MP3 files. Still hoping to find the CD, which I value as an artifact.

Do you know his 'Lute Masterworks' CD? Masterly playing, in my opinion.

I have the CD. Audifon went out of business years ago, so the few CDs that are for sale are often extremely expensive--up to $300 in some cases! I wish you luck in finding a copy.

That's cool that you have a copy of this fine disc. I did too, once, but lost it in a move, I guess.
I love those first few CDs when DT was playing a spruce Gilbert!

Oddly, the disc is advertized for sale on Tanenbaum's site, here:

Yet when I try to add it to Cart, nothing happens.

The one pictured on that page is his second recording of it on the Stradivarius label, not the Audiofon recording.

Ah, thanks for clarifying. I had no idea he recorded that twice. Personally, if the second recording is as good or better than the first, then I'd just go with that one:-) On the other hand, Corey did say that the first recording was done using a strong sounding guitar, so maybe the later recording just doesn't live up to the first.

I think the sound quality is better on the first one as I recall. It's been a while since I played either version, but Audiofon is known for their audiophile sound.
