Magnien, Victor - op.17/01 Andante - 8 string romantic guitar - Video

Post by Rui Namora » Sat Mar 09, 2019 6:24 pm

Victor Magnien (Épinal,1822 - Lille1885) - Andante op.17 nº1, from "Six Andantes op.17 pour la Guitare" dedicated to his student Louis Kastner
Score here - https://ruinamora.files.wordpress.com/2 ... s-op17.pdf
Victor Magnien, born in the french region of Vosges, was both a guitarist and a violinist. Student of Carulli (guitar) and Kreutzer (violin), he composed both solo and chamber music for guitar, violin concertos, piano and organ pieces and religious music. Reputable professor, Magnien published a Music Theory treatise (https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k ... d/f5.image) to be used by the Imperial Education System. Later, in 1846, he was appointed director of the Imperial Conservatoire of Music in Lille.

I took some liberties, making use of the extra strings, and added a final cadenza as well.

Rui Namora - 8 string Romantic Guitar (Jan Tuláček), after J.A. Stauffer (1837)

Very nice, Rui. He is a new composer to me. You play very well, and I like the cadenza!

Thanks, Rob and Smith.
There is some jewels only waiting to be (re)discovered. And so little time. With our without cadenzas and ornamentation ;)

It is lovely! You have a really beautiful tone, and make that piece sing as it should. Bravo!
