I wonder why the Alhambra 10p is only selling for $499?

Post by glassynails » Tue Jan 29, 2019 11:08 am

I noticed GC had an Alhambra 10p for $499 if I remember correctly and tried it out and it played and sounded nice. I'm just wondering though, cause my 7p cost more years ago then that. Isn't the 10p considered a step up from the 7p? It was cedar though and my 7p is spruce.

Normally about x2.5 as far as I know. All sorts of reasons spring to mind from mistake to damaged, to a trade in, to simply clearing out stock that is not selling. If it is not actually damaged I suspect it will simply be snapped up and then flipped at a profit unless it is an exceptional example.

We had that before. Most likely you saw a 1 OP. OP=open pore, a simpler finish. So it’s a version of a Alhambra 1, not a 10.

Oh yes, it is open pore. But why do they advertise it as a "10p"? It's sounds very nice though to me. I was thinking of getting it for a 2nd guitar. Less than $400 seems like a good deal.

Actually upon closer look at a comment on the gc website. Someone said "it's a 1 op , not a 10p" there was a "manufacture reply" saying "it IS a 10p guitar"

A 10P would be “old new stock”. They exchanged that for a 10 premier, which has different bracings from the 8P, 9P, 11P. That might explain the story.

If you can afford it, this might be the better option to getting your 7 fixed.

If you like it, you like it - the point of cedar vs spruce isn’t a point in this case, since you are talking an individual guitar.

If you get it, I would be looking in the D’Addario 2 way humidification system. We discussed that recently in another thread.

my 7p still plays fine and is already sounding better after a day of humidifying it. Hey for $1000 that paid for it 10 years ago, it's served me very well.

It's really just Alhambra's poor model numbering. I saw the page you mentioned, and the reply still says "1O P" with the letter "O". I don't know why they space the characters that way. This is a One-oh-pee, not a ten-pee. Back and sides are mahogany, finish is open pore, etc. The 10P (ten-pee) has solid rosewood back/sides, a 20th fret extension, gloss finish, etc. While they do market that now as the "10 Premier," the "1 OP" still gets mislabeled as a "10 P" all over the web. It's understandable since other Alhambra student models still use the #P format (e.g., 7P, 9P). I think Alhambra has started using "Z Nature" instead of "1 OP" for this model outside the US (see their international web site), but I don't understand why they haven't changed this within the US.
