Urgent help with my guitar purchase

Post by Alessandro » Fri Jul 05, 2019 2:45 am

HI! I need some help with my first purchase and I thought you might be able to help me out.. I've been playing mostly acoustic but now I'm about to get my entry level classical...
I have few options/good deals on my hands but don't know which is the best with built quality/sound quality/value ratio:
I have to say that being a beginner amateur ,for now I don't want to spend much, but Not even buy rubbish!
My second hand option are:
-Cordoba protege C1M brand new 150 aud
-Yamaha G-55A little old not too bad 100 aud
-Salvador Ibanez GA5W-NT-27-01 very nice cond. 150 aud

Thanks for your support/advice in advance !!
Alessandro

1) It's not that urgent - not an emergency
2) forget makes, brands, etc.
3) Decide what you can afford and try lots of guitars in your price range
4) don't buy new, you get much more bang for your buck pre-loved
5) take along another pair of ears, and another pair of hands ... play it to each other
5) settle on the guitar that speaks to you, the one you love

If you do all this and spend all you can afford you will have a guitar you won't grow out of in a hurry, and you will get your money back when you upgrade (unless you don't want to part with it, that is!)

+1 totally agree.
Used gear is the king when you want a decent instrument in a tight budget and do not care about specs(scale/nut/woods etc)
Do not buy a bad instrument, it will not inspire you to study...(it is better to wait and ask someone to lend you a "beater" while you get the money)

At your price point, since there's really no meaningful resale value to worry about - just buy which ever appeals to you the most. That is the one you will want to play.

Search this site for posts about Takamine C 132s. As a used and inexpensive guitar, it can't be beat, as many will attest
I love mine, and it was my first guitar. At $400, there was very little financial risk.

Excellent suggestion. Probably older ones are better. 70s, 80s.

Thanks to all for the replies!! yes it was urgent as I went to see them all in one day and they were in different cities I was travelling through..eventually the winner was the Yamaha g55 from the 70's for 90 bucks!!! I am quite surprise as it sounds so nice and way better than the others! one had a bracing loose and the other want not very warm in sound as I like it so it was quite easy to decide!
Cleaned it ,levelled the frets and put new d'addario strings on! I DOOOOO Love it! :)
Thanks again to you all for the advice and tips!

A 1970's G-55-1 was my very first guitar! The long scale and thin frets were not the easiest combo on the left hand, but it had a sweet tone that I swear improved with age (...or maybe I did, or maybe my ears just changed...). I replaced the plastic saddle with bone and it really sang, but shortly after that I moved and sold it along with a few other guitars. Ah well. Enjoy yours!
