Buzzing A string on many new Yamaha classicals

Post by guitarmom » Sun Oct 15, 2006 7:08 pm

I have played numerous new Yamaha solid spruce top classicals/flamencos in various stores, and every one has a buzz/rattle on the A string when played open. (151 and 171 models). I tried changing strings at one store to higher tension, and this made no difference.

Recently, I heard two guitars of this type, and there was no problem with the A string.

Does the buzzing work itself out over time, or are the used Yamahas exceptions to the rule?

As guitars open up, they change. My guitar has started buzzing, but this is almost totally eliminated with high tensions strings.

I doubt I would bother raising the action on it because I plan to upgrade, but if the guitar was a high end model, and it develkoped a buzz (especially with open strings) I would probably increase the height at the nut and saddle ends.

D strings are more prone to buzzing than A though because D vibrates more wildy.
