Any advice?

Hi,

I hope some of you folks can advise.

I've been playing guitar for a long time now albeit with som elengthy periods of interuption. I play for my own enjoyment and have gotten into classical in a big way in the last few years. I also like bosa nova/ jazz.

My 40th birthday is coming up and I fancy getting myself a decent guitar as the one I use is a cheapo and a bit done in. The choice looks daunting so I was hoping for some recommedations to speed the process.

I probably have a budget of about £500 or $700 and would be looking for something mainstream.

Thanks in advance.

That's quite a question and you are going to get a hundred different recommendations. I would urge you to play before you buy if at all possible. If you have to buy online/mail order make sure you are dealing with a reputable dealer who will allow you to return an instrument if it turns out you don't like it. I don't know where you live, but in the UK these companies are worthy of consideration:

http://www.staffordguitar.com/
http://www.promenademusic.co.uk
http://www.sheehans.com

The last two are general musical instrument shops and Promenade Music is a really good company to deal with. Enjoy the search! Best wishes, V.
