Help on chosing an amplified CG system

Post by arndog » Sun Nov 19, 2006 4:17 pm

I could use some help picking out my second guitar. I am looking for a 'good quality' classical guitar that I can amplify to play at events. I need help picking an amp also.
My primary guitar is a David Argent concert guitar which is too precious to take to all "parties" or to play outdoors.
Thanks ahead of time for sharing what works for you

It all really depends how much money you have to spend, of course. In terms of pickups/pre-amps, I have recently fitted Fishman Prefix ProBlend systems to a couple of my guitars, and have had very good results - but these systems retail at around £250 (UK pounds). I think I have seen these systems fitted to Admira guitars, but haven't heard them amplified. Played acoustically, the Admiras seem to range from reasonable to pretty awful.

For an amplifier, by far the best I've heard is the AER. I have recently bought myself an AER Alpha 40W amp, and am delighted with it. Again it's not the cheapest, but I guess you get what you pay for. I'm sure others will have more experience of alternatives.
