Machine Head For Yamaha Guitars

Post by Chuah Hui Hsien » Thu Mar 07, 2019 2:47 am

I have a Yamaha Classical Guitar (GD10) made in 1998, now the machine head is worn out and I am looking for a replacement. Can someone point to me which model is suitable for it?

Yamaha uses Gotoh tuners on their higher end GC models. Gotoh has a good selection from inexpensive to higher end... either way I'd go for them at any price point.

Yamaha still appears to stock the tuning machines for your guitar: 1 U8900039 TUNING MACHINE ASSY (L1+R1) YTM-81

Nevertheless, as souldier notes, Gotoh should work fine.

Thank you soldier and Beowulf!

I'll go with Gotoh tuners then!

Good stuff! Yamaha still uses the YTM-81 tuners on its GC series up to the GC82S/C, which both use the Gotoh 35G510QC-M.

Yamaha YTM-81 tuners are good, easy to tune and detune. My guitar was knocked down by the side many times in the classroom, until the D tuner bent and could not hold the string tension any longer when I bring the string up to pitch.

Can Gotoh 35G series some other cheaper models work on Yamaha guitars too?

Yes...just check the roller spacing on your GD-10 (should be 35mm) and the plate attachment screw spacing. It is easier to install a new machine head if the screw spacing matches, but it will work if you have to make new holes.

Found the machine head tuners model number that fits Yamaha GC series,
Gotoh 35G 1600-EN, about €60 per pair.

Thanks!
