Tarbaby, No doubt women were driven in those days (as nowadays) to jumping up and down with rage by their "better half", but Diana Poulton says* "possibly the word 'jump' in the title refers to the moment in the 'Volta' when the female partner leaps in the air , assisted by the male partner's knee under her bottom". :D

I've only just discovered John Dowland in my search for great Renaissance pieces (with the sound that you hear in all the fairs, not classical composers) and I LOVE the sound of this. I've orded the books online to learn his stuff. It's a bit over my head at the moment and I can only play a couple things with some decency. But this type of music is what makes me want to continue to try Classical Guitar for this time period. Any suggestions on other people that have his type of sound? Please PM me with some if you have them, I'm not here as often as I should be.
