Dowland, John - A Dream - Video

Post by Rob MacKillop » Tue Dec 01, 2009 11:49 am

Here is John Dowland's Dream. It's such a beautiful piece, and I am amazed it gets very few plays, even by lute players. It's easier to play than Lachrimae, and just as beautiful, in my opinion.

Rob - I cannot comment on the relative difficulty (both pieces are beyond me at the moment) but I do agree that this is a very beautiful piece. Well presented as always.

:bravo:

Thank you for posting this, truly inspirational.

:merci: Rob,

This is pleasant indeed—an interpretation that reflects the title of the piece,

Best wishes, V :D

Lovely, Rob! This piece is new to me. Thank you for bringing it to our attention. I will put it on my 'to do list'. :merci:

I learned it from the lute tablature. There must be a guitar arrangement somewhere?

:merci: Rob, I would like to hear you play it on lute also - I play it (on alto guitar) occasionally along with other favourites (the exquisite 'Mignarda' and 'Lady Laiton's Almaine' etc.) and I have never heard a performance or seen a transcription for guitar either.

Your wish is my command. Here I am playing it on lute, accompanied by some of my dream girls:

:merci: :merci: :merci: ad infinitum - I had to play it twice (and will play it again) as 'les girls' did not help concentration first time (the lassie with the viola de arco/mano and book I hadn't seen before), but with eyes closed the essence of Elizabethan neo-Platonic culture came to my ears.

Yes, I was aiming for that neo-Platonic thang 8)
