Dowland, John - Orlando Sleepeth - D04 - Video

Post by Valéry Sauvage » Fri Feb 18, 2011 8:56 am

The shortest piece by Dowland...
Here I play is a little bit too fast. I think the poor Orlando is having a nightmare, he is not sleeping peacefully.

Very nice. Perhaps a touch too fast but still very nice.

He is just dreaming about the wonderful day he just had by the riverside with his lady friend. Makes his heart race just a bit.

I am very curious. How do you know if you are playing the piece too fast? :? Everyone here seems in agreement, but I can't figure out how one would know that.....

It is about the word Sleepeth... Perhaps Orlando is sleeping, and If I play that fast I will awake him...

Lovely, Val. It seems that we are both in a 'Dowland' period.

Would Orlando have had access to coffee ? - or was that to arrive in the next century?

But very nice at a slightly livelier tempo .

I am now inspired to play it again, so I will find my D04 collection. :merci:
