Weiss, S. L. - Prelude and Chaconne in Eb Major - Video

Post by kidneykutter » Tue Aug 19, 2008 1:14 pm

The first and last movement from Weiss' Eb major sonata from the London manuscript. Difficult key for the lute; lots of notes +/- barres on the first fret. Should work well in a guitar transcription, but probably best in E major or D major (to get the most bass notes included).

Hello Daniel,

Brilliant! It sounds wonderful—you extract some gorgeous tones from that lovely lute. Thank you very much indeed, I really enjoyed hearing you play again,

All the best, V :) :bravo:

Daniel,

Beautifully done, as is the Lauffensteiner selection on YouTube.

Thanks very much for the votes of confidence. I'm on my way to play this piece in a masterclass with Paul O'Dette this morning, so I'll need all the confidence I can get!

The masterclass was fantastic, as expected. We discussed timing and pacing (counting the main bars in "1" and the bar with the chord changes in "3") as well as ways to bring out the individual orchestral "voices" within the lines of the music. Very evident that he sees music both as a lutenist and as a conductor (he directs the Boston Early Music Festival).

Like any good teacher, he will learn something from his 'pupils' - I hope he has had time to enjoy your You Tube recordings as much as we do. Thanks for all of them.

Does anyone know of any guitar arrangements of these pieces?
