13 courses: top 2 are single, rest are doubled, either in unison or octaves. Top 6 tuned in a d minor chord (fdafda). Bottom 7 in a diatonic scale from A up to G. Therefore you have to retune your basses if you change key. This is the instrument Weiss composed for.
