Lawson, Jeremiah - Guitar Sonata in A major - Video

Post by Jeremiah Lawson » Sat May 06, 2017 9:26 am

There's an extensive description of the work at the video link so I won't write too much about it here. It's a long work, a single movement that's a bit more than seven minutes long. I took an old piano rag in E flat I composed in my college years and reconceived the introduction, first, and third strains of the work into a new sonata/ragtime fusion for solo guitar. I got the idea to do this because this is the centennial year of Scott Joplin's death and I wanted to compose a ragtime/sonata fusion in honor of his work. It's ... tricky to play in a few spots, particularly in the development section where it's in B flat minor.
