Kenyon, Stephen - Song for Alison - Video

Post by Stephen Kenyon » Wed Apr 11, 2018 4:42 pm

I am very pleased to present to you my piece "Song for Alison". Some may recall the thread a few weeks ago;
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=117174
Well, in the end I wrote something and Bill (Intune) was kind enough to approve of it. Here is the video. The 'info' text is below.
For the score please see here;
viewtopic.php?f=12&t=119393

'Song for Alison' was written at the request of Bill for the birthday of his wife Alison.
Guitar by Simon Ambridge, 2005. Strings are D'Addario J45LP.
It was recorded by two Hebden Sound mics, into a Focusrite ISA 428 then Logic, and the Altiverb reverb used the Margaretakirken setting at 10%.
Two cameras were used and the performance was one continuous take, the first of three. The higher camera was not very well positioned for this first take! Video editing in iMovie.

If she doesn't like this, than I don't think anything will suffice. Very nice piece. Thanks for sharing

I’m delighted that Stephen has posted “Song for Alison” here — both the score and his inspired recording of it. When I first thought of commissioning a new guitar work dedicated to my wife as a surprise birthday present, I never imagined that such a hauntingly beautiful piece as this would result. But here it is.…

During the several months it took to mold this work, I came to appreciate Stephen’s meticulous craftsmanship and passionate musical vocabulary, evident in every phrase. Frankly, I never tire of hearing this music, or of playing it, too. I can only hope that other guitarists will take to it as I have and perhaps want to include it in their repertoire and concert programs.

For her part, Alison was absolutely thrilled beyond measure by her present (“The best gift ever!”) and couldn’t be happier with her “song.” A framed copy of the score now hangs proudly in our home. I could go on and on this way, but instead I’ll simply let “Song for Alison” speak for itself.

Stephen, thank you so much! You went above and beyond in creating this lovely music, and it’s much appreciated!

I also want to thank the other Delcampers who so kindly answered my call for submissions of new works for my wife’s birthday. Accomplished composers all, they contributed lovely pieces that showed once again the talent and diversity of the Delcamp community.

Stephen you have once again proved yourself a truly inspired composer as well as an incredibly talented performer (the latter you may disagree with but if you do you would be wrong :) ). I followed the original discussion thread with interest. It's very fitting that the final/accepted submission came from you.

Bill, I'm so pleased for you that your gift to Alison was received so well. As I said in my original comment to your post, the whole project was such a wonderful and heartfelt gesture.

Well done.

-Paul
