Barrios Mangoré, Agustín - Prelude in Dm; Villancico de Navidad; Julia Florida

Post by RobMacKillop » Wed Aug 29, 2018 7:57 pm

Here's the lovely Prelude in Dm which is new to me - haven't heard anyone else play it, though it might well be very popular and common. Then Villancico de Navidad, and finally the barcarolle, Julia Florida.

Unfortunately, the sound and vision are out of sync in Julia Florida. Sorry about that! I suggest you just close your eyes - which for my videos is always the best suggestion!

Juan Hernandez "Luthier" guitar. Savarez White Card strings. And, of course, no-nails technique.

Very good playing - which makes me wonder - did Barrios use nails?

That last artificial harmonic in Julia Florida is just perfection :)

When I grow up I want to play like that!

But seriously, of all the techniques involved in the guitar, the artificial harmonics give me the most trouble so far playing without nails. The natural harmonics are easy...but I guess I just have to practice the artificial ones more :) I believe maestro Pujol has an exercise on them somewhere...

Cheers, Tate. You can't relax as you are coming to the end of Julia Florida, as it could all come crashing down on that last note! I got lucky this time :-)

...and don't grow up!
