Barrios Mangoré, Agustín - op.08/04 Valse - D08

Post by mark34 » Tue May 16, 2006 11:39 pm

Hi guys,

It looks like maestro Barrios is one of our favourite composers here in the forum … :D
I have recorded this valse on quite bad guitar which I borrowed from my friend ( I hope he won't read this post  )- so....sorry for very poor basses. I missed them especially in the middle- arpeggio section.
I was very inspired by Artur Rubinstein playing Chopin's valses while working on that piece. Well, I am not sure whether I played it the way I wanted it :? . I will have to listen to it after e few days.

In meantime I hope to get some comments from you :D . Any criticque is very welcome !!!!

Mark:

If this guitar is "quite bad", then all the more credit to you. It sounds wonderful to me, and your complaint about the bass doesn't bother me a bit. You play with remarkable dynamics. My only possible critique might be that it starts very slow, and slows again to a sleepy tempo about a minute before the end. I would prefer it just a small bit faster there.

Lovely work.

Mark,

Near unbelieveable -- except we have heard you play before and once again you have excelled. This is professional recording quality for sure. You move in and out on this one is such a sure and confident way that Maestro Barrios had to be pleased and honored. Man, I would love to be able to phrase half as well.

Very impressive :applauso: :applauso:

It flows like water right to the end. Your tone is very good and I love the dynamics and accents you add to the piece (for example the `scale run' at the start of the piece (0'25) where you do a cresc. up to the highest note which works excellent!). Barrios is not (at all) my favourite composer but it is joy to hear your recording!

If this was a bad guitar I am curios what the recording would be like on a concert guitar :D
