Thanks for the kind comments. It's always a challenge to play Barrios, but also very rewarding.

That was so wonderful, Raffy. Thank you very much. Barrios is one of my favorites and the first composer I learned about when learning classical guitar.

Fantastic performance, Raffy. I'm not sure that I ever heard this piece before, but it is beautiful.

Now...about your playing. I'm totally impressed, you made a 6 fret stretch at 4:15. I saw it and still I can't believe it, and that was from the 1st fret to the 6th!
How'd you do that? And you didn't even miss a beat!
I'm really glad that you made a video rather than just a recording. It was great being able to see what you were doing.
Thank you.
:merci:

Hi Kay. Thanks for watching my vid and I agree that watching a performance is better appreciated than just listening to an audio recording. This is actually the purpose of all my vids on youtube, especially the Filipino pieces I've recorded and uploaded. They are meant to demonstrate how the pieces are fingered, but my vids are not meant to be a definitive performance of them - that's better done by the pros.
I'm not sure how to describe that stretch because it's quite natural for me to do it. I never thought about the technical side of it until now so here's my take. You'll notice that my fingers are already prepped prior to that stretch. The fingering of the chord in the beat prior to the big stretch is the same and it's just a matter of sliding your index finger one more fret lower. Another thing to keep in mind is that the piece is fraught with stretches so that when you get to that "big stretch", it's just another one of those stretches you have to execute. Cheers.

Hi Raffy,
Working with this piece at the moment, I'm absolutely amazed with your smooth performance, and especially that critical stretch...
I find the piece rather difficult at some places. Having a smaller hand, unfortunately, instead of the 1-6 stretch I'm forced to use an alternative fingered chord with the d sharp note an octave higher. It still sounds good, I think, although the bass line becomes broken.

Hi Attila - Thanks for the comment. I don't have big hands or long fingers either. I think that it's just a matter of practicing the stretches as well as not rushing to execute them. If nothing else works, I agree that an alternative fingering or note will work well, too.

Regards,

Raffy
