[PDF] Fux, J. J. - K.355 Ouverture - Trio

Here is what will be probably the first substantial piece by J. J. Fux played by guitarists, though I am sure someone must have arranged some little minuets. I prepared this for strings for a summer school but down a minor 7th it fits on 3 guitars with an optional doubling of the bass.

Fux http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johann_Fux is famous as the author of Gradus ad Parnassum http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gradus_ad_Parnassum though is music is not in any way pedantic and this Ouverture is rather beautiful. I am stopping proof reading now and am starting to look forward to playing it next week.

P. S. We played this last night (14/10/11) there is one E-flat missing somewhere and the trills in parts 1 and 2 of the canon are not quite identical and they should be. I will put up a corrected version when it has been lived with a bit more..... Martin.

This piece has been a great success played on strings and continuo down at Halsway Manor. I have played it again today, this time on recorders, and found two minor errors. There is an obvious correction to line 2 in bar 70 to make it the same rhythm as line 1. bar 396, the tune, should end in a semi-quaver with an extra dot needed as earlier. I do not suppose it is possible to get 408 bars totally error free without playing it many times and I do not get 3 guitars capable of playing this music together very often. I will post a new version when it has been played through by real guitarists, not computers, a couple more times.
