Sea Shanty, writing from Japan

Post by Sea Shanty » Sat Dec 15, 2018 3:29 pm

Hello,

I'm Sea Shanty, an Australian living in Japan.

I have a long history as a pianist but no experience playing the guitar. That said, I've always loved the intimate sound of plucked instruments and it's time I made something of it. (I'd jump straight to the lute if it were practical, but lutenist resources are sparse and guitars are ubiquitous.)

I expect I'll be asking about historical Japanese luthiers in the coming months.

Cheers and yoroshiku!

Welcome to Delcamp!

If you haven't already, please take a moment to read this page for a good rundown on how the forum works, rules, history, etc. You have found a great source of classical guitar knowledge, as we have a wide assortment of members, from beginners to performing artists, with a number of fine teachers, historians, and luthiers. So feel free to ask any questions you might have, but consider using the search function first, as many topics have already been discussed at length.

If you participate in other online forums, you might notice that things can occasionally get rather heated. We work hard to keep that from happening on Delcamp. Please read Mssr. Delcamp’s thoughts on the subject.

Please note that there is a requirement to post an average of once a month. Members not meeting this standard may have their memberships terminated.

Adding your location to your profile is a nice touch. Many of us have made new friends from doing just that.

Again, welcome to the forum!

Regards,

Hi Sea,

Welcome to the Delcamp forum!
Here you will find many threads about Japanese guitar makers, for example:
https://www.classicalguitardelcamp.com/ ... p?t=111723
and
https://www.classicalguitardelcamp.com/ ... 11&t=56508

I have visited Japan last April and I have been amazed about the number of stores and the quality of their instruments.
I have posted about it here:
https://www.classicalguitardelcamp.com/ ... 1&t=119454

Hope these help.

Cheers,
Bogdan

Cheers for the welcome, gents.

Yes, I've been reading a lot from these forums already. Bought an inexpensive Takamine to start on and I hope I'll have more to say about that in a week or two.
