Hi from Rochester, NY

I'm a mom of a classical playing daughter. She has been taking lessons since she was 8 and now she is 14. Her playing is very advanced for her age especially her ability to emote (expressiveness). She is working on being more precise, faster, and more consistent. Now she is old enough, we are exploring options for her to compete and planning on her competing at the GFA Youth Competition. Her student Kenny Hill guitar isn't cutting it anymore. I joined so I could get advice about what luthiers we could look into to get her a more concert level guitar without breaking our wallet. My daughter's teacher said she needs cedar because of her playing style and my daughter likes cedar more than spruce top. Since she tends to be on the softer side, we need a guitar that is louder but have warmer quality. Her teacher is looking into options but I was going to try looking for options myself too since I love to research everything to death.

Good morning, and welcome to the forum. Wonderful that you are so supportive of your daughter. You will probably get a fair number of responses to your inquiry, here's mine. Check out Pimentel and Sons in Albuquerque, NM. They make wonderful, world class instruments. I own one and couldn't be happier with it. They will make it for your daughter, as all guitars are made for clients - they do not produce for stores, etc. Rick Pimentel, the main guy there will take you through every step. They are friendly, competent, and make amazing instruments without requiring you to take out a second mortgage. If noting else, check them out for their fascinating family story. Enjoy the forum!
