A forgotten gem - Terada gakki 400

Post by good2go » Sat Dec 29, 2018 12:18 am

Hello all - Im a 60 somethimg bloke from down under and at risk of repeating myself from my first post (if I pressed all the right buttons) a friend gave me a classical guitar around 20 years ago. Thinking it was just a cheap bit of tat (although I thought it didn't sound half bad) I left it sitting in a corner and basically forgot about it. Im a drummer by trade and recently got on the ukulele craze which led me to look at it again and after googles help Im amazed at the attention it generated on line which has led me here now. Its obviously a lot better than I thought. Its a Terada (Gakki) 400 in very good condition. Im looking to restring it - any ideas on what with would be appreciated also Im a leftie - would setting it up to suit be messing it up. The bridge and saddle are set straight across (not on an angle) and the nut grooves seem to be all the same width and depth so Im assuming it would be OK. Ill try and post some pics soon. Certainly Im looking forward to the next part of my musical journey with this instrument

Seasons greetings all - A follow up post to my first re a Terada gakki 400. Tried restringing for a left hander and couldn't keep it in tune for more than a couple of strums. Sounded like an old inner spring mattress. Also noted the action was very high - then I saw that there is a severe bow along the neck. Im assuming there isn't a truss rod so my first feelings of delight about this instrument are dashed. In this state its unplayable
