Augustine guitar strings

Post by AshenSing » Sun Dec 30, 2018 5:08 pm

I have a question about the Augustine strings. My brother just got me the classic trebles/black basses for me this Christmas. I had never heard of them till now. But I noticed that the lower strings were thinner then the higher ones, I was wondering two things, 1. Is this normal, and 2. Do you tune the guitar differently?

I can’t quite follow your comment. Amongst the treble strings the G string will be thickest, then the b with the top e string the thinnest. For the basses, the bottom E is thickest followed by the A then the D the thinnest of the basses. Anything else suggests strings might have been packed in the wrong sleeves or somebody pulled the strings out and repackaged them incorrectly. I can guarantee the order of thickness given above for the Augustine strings you mention. Fit them in that order and time them up normally.

Augustin changed the packaging of the individual strings some time ago.
Now e1 and d4 are in one, b2 and A5 in another and g3 and E6 in the third envelope, which enables a direct comparison of somehow corresponding treble and bass string.
Anyway, though the visual appearance might be different, the basses actually are slightly thicker than the trebles in the said order. In case yours are thinner, that wouldn’t be normal!
Augustin Classics Black are dedicated for use in standard tuning and BTW was THE reference for Nylon strings in the past!

Thank you! So you are saying the packageing was wrong or I messed it up?

If you are referring to my comment, I am not explicitly saying either. The main point is just to sort the strings as I describe them and fit them accordingly.

Peter

Me too! Please follow Peter‘s advice and enjoy your new strings. Augustin Classic Black is a good choice!
