Edition of De Visee Dm suite in Dropped D

Post by crazyrach97 » Wed Aug 29, 2018 2:51 am

I just watched a YouTube video of a young man named Tavi Jinariu playing De Visee's Dm suite in Dropped D tuning. I've actually been working on the version in Solo Guitar Playing, but i like this dropped D version better! Does anyone know what edition he might be working from, and if it's commercially available?

I worked out the sarabande with his fingerings in standard tuning pretty easily. You only really miss the last low D note in the final measure.. anyway, he has his arrangement of the prelude on EliteGuitarist. Maybe he'll post the rest of it someday soon. I like it too.

So it's his own arrangement, then? I'm going to PM him... thanks for the tip!... but if that doesn't pan out I'll work it out on my own.

I know that this doesn't help with your question - but it is worth having a listen to Julian Bream playing the de Visee D min Suite as well (audio only - also on YouTube). Beautiful playing. (Though, like Jinariu, perhaps not "historically informed" by today's standards. But who cares?)

hello Crazyrach97,

There is a nice transcription of that suite in drop D to be found in : "Classical masterpieces in tablature", transcribed by Dennis Franco, Mel Bay Publications (all pieces are in staff+tab).
Hope this helps,
Regards,

Gilles

David is correct. This is a wonderful transcriptions; I have changed some aspects here and there but the basis is Parkening's transcription. Thanks David for the contribution.

Just want to add that while Julian Bream's recording on his Baroque album is fantastic, there is also a fantastic new recording by the early music specialist Xavier Diaz Latorre of Visee's music that is unbelievable. It's so dramatically different from any version I've ever heard a classical guitarist perform (more ornaments, more dance like etc) and I've really been enjoying it and it's totally changed my approach to this music.
