Diabelli Prelude?

Post by Malcolm » Wed Dec 05, 2018 2:38 am

I have a score that is titled Prelude and is, supposedly, by Anton Diabelli. The key signature is G major and the time signature is 12/8. It is little more than a simple arpeggio exercise: two bars of G, two bars of F#, two bars of F, and two bars of E etc.

I have looked at the set of seven Diabelli Preludes and only one is in G major - none of them are in 12/8.

Anyone have any ideas?

Cheers,
Malcolm

It looks like Diabelli, op. 39, no. 8, which is originally in 2/2 time signature, your 1/8 notes are part of sextuplets,
and someone has changed the time signature and left away the sextuplet marks.
Op. 39 carries the German title "XXX sehr leichte Uebungsstuecke fuer die Gitarre"
(30 very easy practice pieces for the guitar). A facsimile of the book (PDF format) is
available from the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek (Bavarian State Library).

“someone has changed the time signature and left away the sextuplet marks.”

Awful! That’s diabellical!
