Notre Dame as we know it is gone.

Post by Catire » Mon Apr 15, 2019 7:10 pm

This is just so sad. It seems that Notre Dame cathedral in Paris has burned down. My condolences to our French members. We are all poorer because of this.

What? I checked to make sure, and this is terrible. Especially because I have not been inside it.
All the best to you Parisians.

Let me please came with small correction: Notre Dame is not gone, Notre Dame is in fire, is badly damaged but it is still there, beside what I see in TV I am in contact with my French friends

What a disaster!
I've been visiting this cathedral over and over again for the last 40 years.
I can't believe it's destroyed.
Let us hope that good engineers and craftsmen can repair it.

Awful. They say the structure will remain, and they will rebuild. But they cannot replace the thousand-year-old trees or the medieval glass. Awful.

Well, the new day brings some good news. The structure is sound, the medieval stained-glass windows remain intact, and there was a human chain rescuing most of the art works. The main damage is to the thousand-year-old trees, and a big hole in the ceiling. Though bad, the damage could have been much worse.

I still have a memory of a visit to Notre Dame in October 1974. I studied it in my Architecture history class and seeing it in person was a profound experience. I hope its rebuilding brings about a worldwide sense of community.
