What kind of AC broke on you and what will you install next? It's been hot and humid here in NYC. We're 10 miles from the Atlantic ocean and only get a few weeks of uncomfortable hot weather here. We have a couple of window AC units but it's a drag (and heavy) to install/uninstall every season. We rely mostly on open windows and fans to keep cool in hot weather. Last night, as I was taking a shower, we had thunder shower/ driving rain with changing wind directions. By the time I got out to shut all the windows, a lot of rain got in already. With no airflow and 85F indoor temps, it was hot and muggy! The only relief was the ceiling fan.doug wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2019 10:02 amHot and humid !!! It was 82 degrees F at 5 am this morning! ....the high today will be in the mid-to-upper 90's...and the air feels so thick and balmy that you could cut it with a knife. ....and our downstairs air conditioner unit has quit. Fortunately, the upstairs unit.....where the bedrooms are.....is working. We're trying not to cook much until the new unit is installed, to minimize heat in the kitchen. ....lots of sandwiches. Yesterday I suggested to my wife that she move the toaster oven out on the back porch and bake a potato.....to keep the heat out of the kitchen. ....and when I got home, I grilled a steak.
For the near future, there's no relief in sight. The heat index levels have been 100+ for a week or so, and it's just supposed to get hotter for the next few days. The weather person is predicting a heat index of around 115-120 by Sunday.
A mini-split heat pump cool/heat system would have been nice to have. I am looking at installing such a system for at least 3 to 4 rooms in the house.
