Talk about things that are not necessarily related to music or the guitar.

AC Doyles A Study in Scarlet, the first of the Sherlock Holmes adventures is notable for the story of the Mormans in the American West
I read the Conan Doyle about 5 times, that is a great story.I love the longish Holmes stories, e.g. Hound of Baskervilles

His work is still impressive and enjoyable 120 yrs later - Remarkable how much he looks like Dr. Watson

Child of God by Cormac McCarthy. If you are in the mood for some neo-Faulknerian necrophilia, this is your book!

I'm reading the essays of Paul Graham. My favourite so far has been Why Nerds are Unpopular. It's a brilliant essay packed with astute observations on the flaws of the education system and the consequences thereof. A must-read for any student who hates school.

Well I am struggling through "The Cecils" by David Loades. It 's a fascinating topic but I am finding it hard going for some reason.

For those not familiar with this period of English history, William Cecil (later Lord Burghley) was secretary to Queen Elizabeth I. His son Robert followed in his father's footsteps and became a privy councellor. They were at the centre of a web of intrigue, dealing with Mary Queen of Scots, the Gunpowder Plot and various other nefarious doings during the reigns of Elizabeth and James I.

I love biographies

I've just finished Barney's Version by Montreal writer Mordecai Richler.

It's really funny; perhaps because, among other reasons, it portrays human nature in very direct terms. The story also takes place in the Montreal Jewish community, which I knew as a kid and am fond of even though I'm a goy.
