My Video Practice Journal

Post by orbiterred » Thu Apr 19, 2012 1:03 am

Hey Guys,

I recently got accepted into the masters program at Memorial University of Newfoundland and I've since started doing a bit of blogging.

Basically my idea is to just record my thoughts/ideas on pieces as I'm working through them as sort of a Practice Journal. So far I've done quite a bit of work with some of the Carcassi Etudes but as time goes on I'll be working through larger rep as I prepare for recitals etc... 99% of this is all video based.

For example: I just did a video on my thoughts about choosing tone colors while referencing the first etude by Carcassi. For anyone working on this etude it may be of some use to you and in general the concept should apply to almost anything you're working on.

It's very informal and sort of so I can gauge my own progress but I thought why not share it with everyone?

I'd also love to make some videos based on questions you may have - i.e. if there is a phrase in a piece you're struggling with just ask me a question and I'll take a quick look at the music and see if I can help you with fingerings, phrasing, anything really... good for me to help develop my teaching chops and hopefully good for you guys too :)

The site is here:

http://www.ClassicalGuitarTraining.com

All of the videos are also on my youtube channel: youtube.com/orbiterred

Like I said, I'd love to hear from anyone who is working through any piece and has questions! I can't guarantee I can help but I'll try my best.

Cheers!

Rob

Congratulations!

As for answering questions by video, that sounds like a great idea, Rob. :D
There must be an endless supply of questions out there....

Very nice site! I enjoyed your video on color changes. As my teacher says, you are supposed to "announce" the change in some way to prepare the listener. Nice to hear yet another teacher say the same thing. You know.... you have to keep telling us students the same thing over and over and over again.

Thanks Lagartija :)

We teachers often need to keep telling ourselves the same thing over and over again so I think this would be a good way for me to do that and hopefully help some people out in the process haha. Glad you liked and please ask away if there is anything you think I might be able to help with!

Cheers,

Rob

A few updates to the site in the past month or two.

Brand new look and feel (thanks to my graphic designer Megha) - Lots of new videos added as well as an interview or two with some cool guitarists.

Working on a complete beginners guitar course with a friend that should be up soon as well!
